On the 700th day, there should be snow.
Forecasters are predicting that one to three inches of powder will fall in Central Park Monday night into Tuesday, a modest total that would finally break the longest snow drought in New York City history.
The five boroughs haven’t seen measurable snow accumulation since February of 2022. The average snowfall in a typical Big Apple winter is nearly 30 inches.
“I think this our best shot of getting that one inch,” Fox Weather meteorologist Marissa Lautenbacher told The Post of the Arctic blast sweeping across the US.
More than three-quarters of the country will shiver through below-freezing temperatures Monday and into Tuesday, as more than 140 daily cold records could be broken from Oregon to Mississippi.
“Essentially it’s coming this evening and [there] should be more snow and then it’s kind of transitioning into an icy mix starting around the commute time tomorrow and then it’s pretty much out of here by the time people need to go home tomorrow,” Lautenbacher added.
The interior parts of the tri-state area were also expected to see one to three inches of snow, but less was expected on much of Long Island, which wasn’t predicted to see as much cold air from the west, the meteorologist said.
“A lot of us think we’re going to break [the city’s record drought], even if we just break it by 1.1 inches, It still counts,” said Lautenbacher, adding that cities like Washington, DC, Baltimore and Philadelphia were also expected to turn the page on their record snowless streaks.
“I think the snow lovers are going to be happy even if it’s just a little bit,” she predicted.
Fox Weather meteorologist Jason Frazer doubled down on her sentiments.
“Last winter was a huge bummer. Despite some of the storms that moved through, it seemed NYC was protected. I don’t think this will happen again this season,” said Frazer.
“I look forward to seeing the snow and introducing my daughter to it.”
